How do you read FAOL?????

When I come into FAOL, I log in, then click new posts, this gives me a listing of every posting from all areas that has been added to since I last logged on, any one read just certain areas of the board or have another way of scanning the posts.

Eric

Monday “cover-to-cover”, every other day I go to the BB and read the topics that intrest me.

The thing I don’t like is unless I read all the posts before I leave when I return all the posts are marked read.

When I log in each morning, Google Chrome puts my 9 most visited sites as thumbnails on my homepage, as links. I open my usual online hangouts in new tabs, then I come to the FAOL BB’s homepage and open each forum I frequent in its own tab, then inside that, the threads I’m interested in as tabs of their own.

At this point I might have 15 tabs up, but then, all I do is read a thread and close the tab. When I get to the next one, I refresh, read, and close, etc. It ensures I dont miss anything, and Google Chrome doesnt bog down my computer speed with all the tabs open.

I log on saying, “I will NOT read it all the way through … I will NOT read it all the way through … I’ll read JUST ONE article …” then I read it all the way through any ways!! Then I re read each one again several times during the remaining week.

every day, open up the bb then check things for sale - you never know!

Then I see if John Scott has posted any new pictures in the fishing reports, then check to see if anything interesting in WW and SW forums.

Check for new interesting posts in learning experience, FAOL and sound off.

sometimes check fly tying.

Mondays I also check for new interesting articles and check Fly OTW

I use the new posts function also. Seems to give me a quick overview as to what’s been posted and I move on…

On Monday, I check all the new articles on the main page, and read those that sound interesting, which is most of them. I will say that Deanna does seem to have a freshness to her writing recently, and that Neil is making significant contributions when he lays pen to paper.

Then I go to the Bulletin Board, as I do every other day of the week, and some days several times on and off during the day. Check the current topic on each forum and also look for familiar names whose posts I invariably read. Without naming names, there are probably a couple dozen regulars who always get my attention to their recent posts.

I don’t often check the For Sale or Things Wanted ads, and don’t spend much time on the other subjects in that group. Read and follow all of the Warm Water and Fishing Reports threads, but not the Saltwater. Enjoy the Learning Experience threads and follow the most current of them on a daily basis.

Check all the other Forums, FAOL, Sound Off, Fly Tying and Rod Building and follow many of those threads closely as long as new posts are made. Some just don’t catch my interest.

Don’t always do it, but I often check the User CP and New Posts before logging out. Usually do pick up something that I missed just scanning each Forum as I go along.

John

Mostly, I just check the bulletin board on a daily basis.

Start at the top and visually scan all discussions.
If anything catches my attention I will check it out.

Always read “Learning Experience”, “Fly Anglers Online”, “Sound Off”, “Fishing Reports”, and the building section if there’s anyhting there that piques my interest.

Enthralling eh?

bobbyg

I was using the “New Posts” button for most of my reading when I first started then I found out that I am really missing much of the board. I like the fly tying section and love the articles and use the reference articles often. Great place to be and much more to it than “New Posts”.

Eric…GREAT POST! Some of us may try something new & that’s good.

In the past I would view individual forums of interest, then learn I had missed a great post/thread somewhere else. As a result, I now hit “New Posts” & catch everything. IMO, it’s the only way to surf this site.

On Mondays, I check the articles. I also surf Sponsors every couple of weeks & you really need to utilize all the goodies on the left side of the board…archives, etc.

My bottom line is that, like Eric, “New Posts” ensures you see all forums. It’s a fantastic tool.

I go directly in to the BB, and check out four or five of the categories, and read threads that interest me, and add to threads that I can provide either more info or (and Denny will whack me on this one day) try to get people to step back and realize they are taking this way too seriously. In the evenings, I also go to the chat room and hang around.

Whenever I check into FAOL, Monday or not, I always go right to the BB and read Warmwater, Fly Angler Online, Sound Off and Fly Tying in that order. If it’s a Monday, I then check out the Fly of the Week and read the most read the most interesting sounding article—only one! I save the others for later in the week. I then recheck the other BB areas to see if there is anything of interest in the other categories. John Scott’s and Spinner’s posts are always of interest because of the frequent, high-quality photographs which I will then borrow for my background :). Thank you guys! 8T
