Hopper

I found a hooper species that we see alot in the fall down here, but not in the spring and summer. I couldn’t find it in any insect reference books so it may be a color variation of a common species. Anyway I’m sure the fish get to see them as well . So I tied one up as close to the natural as I could.

It’s mostly deer hair and mono . The wing and pronotum is kleenex tissue soaked in flexament. It’s size matches the live insect’s and it’s tied on a size #6 hook.
Thanks for looking , Fred

That is a live insect, right?

Wow…

That’s what i’m talking about.Don’t let it get loose in the house.

Fred,

How do you tie them onto the hook with their little legs kicking and such? I heard if you stick them in the freezer for a bit it makes it easier.

Seriously, that is one terrific fly. How long did it take you to tie, approximately? Wonderful work.
