Alberto, I use mustad 79580’s mostly, I like the extended length.
But I will tie them on most any hook from the above mentioned to 9671’s and 9672’s for shorter bodied flies.
I don’t think there is a bomber hook law that says this has to be used after all it’s not a hatch matcher, .
Deanna: Where in the “Index” is the “Bombers & Bugs” listed for “Ronn Lucas & Friends”, I have gone through all the listings, and cannot find Marc Madore’s article listed. ~Parnelli
Yeah, it’s tricky passing the hackle to one hand while you pass the mono to the other, you have to grasp it with some free fingers.
I just usually wedge it between free fingers while I make the pass.
It works really well Alberto, I’m sure, like I said that there are other methods, but I like mine the best, .
PS. I do this with large caddis, stones, etc, any pattern that requires a palmered hackle along the body where I don’t want the weight of wire.
Which reminds me wire works well too for wet flies, or you could chop up and old extension chord, it has lots and lots of fine wire, which will work with this method to on large dry or wet flies.
That’s where I got my last bunch, .
