hook keeper ?

I am making my first rod with a hook keeper that folds down. Which way do I face the hook keeper? I am thinking facing the side that comes up toward the tip.
Sorry for the simple question, but I would hate to find out later that I did it wrong.

I would face it with the part that comes up toward the tip.

I have a 50’s cane rod “made in Ireland” It has a folding hook keeper and the keeper ring folds up from the tip. FYI>Jonezee

Yes. It should fold down towards the butt and fold up towards the tip when in use.
