Bruce, sounds like you and your wife will have a great time. Make reservation where a casting sessions will be available. In two days she will be thowing 60 ft and I’ll be jealous as heck.

Great suggestions have been made and let her help make the choice from the lists you give her. No pressure on you then.

Best wishes for a long and fruitful marriage and many adventures together.

My wife and I, just celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary. When we started our life together, we were in the same boat you find yourself in money-wise. Twenty-five years later, with grown children, we find ourselves in the same, money situation still.

I would suggest maybe a nice “Bed and Breakfast” type place. The Honeymoon is not about you getting a line in the water, but to take time with each other, and to recovery from the the Wedding Rigmarole!

There are many nice places you can go to fly fish, that have “Bed & Breakfast” establishments. You could bring a fly rods, and a few flies, but leave them packed away. Instead go for long walks with you Wife, and enjoy your new life togeather.

You can aways scout out the streams and pools, as part of those walks, when you return, on future return trips. But for this one, just spend time togeather, so you will have happy memories in the years to come.

Check out The Slide Inn. It is right on the banks of the Madison River and has some outstanding fishing right out back. It’s somewhat remote being about 30 miles from West Yellowstone and about 40 miles from Ennis, but it is very pretty country and there is actually quite a bit of stuff to do and see within easy driving distance. Yellowstone, Virgina and Nevada cities, and it is just a short jaunt down to the Henry’s Fork in Idaho. Early October is a good time to visit too.

I’m with Troutbum_Mt. In and around Yellowstone gets my vote. There’s so much stuff to see and do, even if you don’t fish, that you could spend a month and not do it all. If you fly in and rent a car, you could stay at a cabin right on the shores of Yellowstone Lake, and see a bunch of stuff just getting there. Jackson Hole and Grand Teton, Cody Wyoming and the Buffalo Bill and John Russell museums, Island Park and the Henry’s Fork, as well as the stuff mentioned by the Troutbum surround the Park. You have a lot of time to plan, so enjoy the “trip before the trip”. Best Wishes, Lew

Plenty of cabins on a cruise ship - plus you could do some trolling.

Troutbum… I’m thinking the “slideInn” is right up my alley. The prices are great, the view looks good, and I think I’ll even spring for two days of guided fishing. To those of you who have reminded me that the honeymoon is not about fishing, try to tell that to my fiancee. She’s all about fishing on our trip. At first I thought she was just trying to appease me, then I snooped at her favorites on her computer, and she has as many fishing sites as I do saved in her bookmarks. she’s only been a few times with me, but camped alot as a child and missed it very much. she says the one thing she wanted to do most when young was to learn to fly fish, so shes as excited about all of this as I am. I really think this could be the trip of a lifetime for both of us. Thanks to everyone for the good recomendations, and keep them coming, I havent sent in any deposits as of yet!!

You need to determine how much your fiance is really willing to put up with potential cold, nasty weather. You are not married yet, so you might not yet realize that wives can say one thing and actually mean something else. Ask your fiance if she likes the idea of fishing in nasty weather or being stuck in a cabin for most of your honeymoon because it is cold and rainy for your vacation week.

That being said, people here have mentioned some great places to go. If you want to do a Rockies trip, you might want to consider northern New Mexico or southern Colorado. There is good fishing there and it should be warmer there than in Montana in October. The Sante Fe area is very nice.

Bruce,

I live about 35 minutes from Lake Lure. It’s a beautiful lake surrounded by majestic rock faced mountains. About 7 miles from the lake I know a man who rents a fully furnished cabin for about $750 week. There are also several bed and breakfast units closeby. There are several trout streams in close proximity to Lake Lure. During the Fall, it is breathtaking.
The movies Dirty Dancing and Last of the Mohicans were shot on location at Lake Lure. There are plenty of things you can do other than fish: hiking, sightseeing, visit nearby waterfalls, tourist attractions like Chimney Rock, the Biltmore House, and Grandfather Mountain.

Congratulations to you and your fiancee.

LOTS and LOTS of great places in British Columbia and you can do it fairly inexpensively. I go out there every October and love it. The scenery is beautiful, the people are friendly and there are LOTS of fish to catch. October is PRIME for ocean bright Coho, some Chums and some BIG Springer’s. Also good Kamloops Rainbow fishing at that time. Thompson River Steelhead can be red hot then too. I took by lovely bride up there this past October and she fell in love with the place!

So bw, let us know what you decide…and bring back some pics to share…of the FISH…and fishing…Sounds like you’ve got a great gal there!
