Hogan's Yuba Pupa SBS

A bit of guesstimation here, since Mr. Brown holds his cards pretty tight to the vest.

hook - Dai Riki 135 #14
bead - 7/64 copper
underbody - non-tox .015
thread - Danville 6/0 black
rib - small wire copper
flashback - medium tinsel pearl
abdomen - tan rabbit
flash - Krystal Flash pearl
wing(?) stubs - goose biots rusty brown
shroud - olive dubbing/Ice Dub
thorax - peacock

Part 1

mash barb, slide on bead; make a few wraps of non-tox and jam inside bead

start thread, cover non-tox; tie in rib and wrap back to bend

tie in flashback

dub thread, dub abdomen

pull flashback over back, tie off/trim

counterwrap rib, helicopter end, cover with thread

Part 2

tie in biots (extend tips a bit past bend)

tie in KF; fold over/tie down

insert some dubbing/Ice Dub in loop, spin, wrap; some pics I’ve seen have a denser shroud - I’ve taken a page from Mr. Is-More’s book and have gone with a lighter touch

tie in peacock

wrap thorax, tie off, trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

Regards,
Scott

The names on your recent posts have been attention grabbing, but the flies are nice too! And nicely tied and photographed as always.

I like the notion of using sparse Ice Dub in a loop as veil.

Nice tie, Scott.

A friend of mine caught an unusually nice rainbow on a Yuba Pupa a few years back. So, I know that pattern catches fish. Bring your Yuba Pupa to the Yellowstone sometime, Scott, and I’ll put you over the exact spot where that big rainbow was caught.

You have a deal!
