I got to go fishing today. And since we had a recent big storm (few days ago) I expected some new garbage to wash down. Interestingly enough, I find this thing sticking outta the sand. I thought it was from the 70’s, my friend’s dad thought the 50’s. A bit short. I believe its 1921-1939, according to this page here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_System#Logo_history
Kind of funny, I was thinking just this weekend about the old pacific bell company that was here on the west coast
the logo was much the same.
Pacific Bell is long broke up now , you know some monopolies worked and that was one company that you could always rely on.
Dad use to purchase our company trucks from their auctions,
I still have Dads 63-ford 3/4" ton utility truck that use to be theirs.
Fur-da-nan my dad use to call it… We named all our vehicles, I still do including the boat and motorcycle.
Served my apprenticeship years as a young lad with that truck of Dad’s, shared many a gallons of ice cream
with him in it too! Spoons still in the glove box to prove it…
Think I will go sit in the old truck for a bit…
Thanks for sharing… and hearing me reminisce some good times past …
Yep, that sure is one heck of keepsake… Glad you found it!
Wow, thats a heck of a find! And in great condition, too, all things considered. The Potomac, right? I’ve spent some time along the C&O Canal trail, and that river washes up some crazy stuff.
That is a very neat find. All I ever find sticking out of sandbanks are beer cans and monofillament tangles. Your sign is certainly a major improvement over those. 8T
