High Volume Pump for Pontoons

I have a High Volume Double Pump Action Sevylor pump for my pontoon boat that quit pumping air after I used it the first time to fill my boat. I’ve taken it apart and everything looks good and sounds good. Critical parts are lubricated, the pump action works, but just a whisper of air comes out. Nothing noticable as far as obstructions. I’m stumped. Any ideas?

not being able to see it.

If it stoped working while stored I would run a wire up the snout to see if a bug had over wintered in there.

If no bug

Then I would put it in a bucket of water and see where the air is coming out.

a spray bottle full of soap bubbles will do this also

Thanks, I’ll try that this evening!

If the bug and bubbles don’t work, check the plunger again and be sure there was not an O-ring or something similar that formed a seal again the cylinder wall in the bottom of the cylinder.

The small electric compressor my friend gave me when it quit pumping air had a leak at the base of the hose.

Hmmm, … If you have an obstruction, the pumping action would be hard to do.

IMHO, the check valve could be stuck half way. Or … 'ya have a leak in the hose.

Take the hose off. Does good air come straight out of the “handle”?

I have a similar pump that I use on my white water raft, it will sometimes develop a sticky check valve and refuse to pump. I can usually fix it by running some clean water through the system.

Also you might make sure you have the hoses on the correct fittings. Mine has both a ‘suck’ and a ‘blow’ connection. I have been fooled when trying to top off the boat only to find I had it connected to the ‘suck’ end!
