Hidden Bead March Brown SBS

A few mods in materials and tying sequence to Barrett Christiensen’s original. Again, don’t be constrainted by recipe; feel free to substitute.

hook - Dai Riki 280 #12
thread - Danville 6/0 rusty brown
rib - small wire copper
tail/shellback - pheasant tail
abdomen - my own super secret Spruce Moth dubbing (tan rabbit/hare’s ear/antron)
bead - 3.2mm gold
thorax - Ice Dub UV tan
hackle - Mearns quail
wing - woodduck flank

Part 1

mash barb, slide bead onto hook; start thread, tie in rib, wrap to bend

dub thread/dub tapered abdomen to 2/3 mark

measure (gap width past bend) some pt fibers; tie in at front of abdomen/trim butts

capture fibers on top with ribbing; continue to counterwrap to front of abdomen, helicopter end, cover with thread, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

jam bead against abdomen, re-start thread, create loop

Part 2

insert Ice Dub, twist, wrap against bead, stroking fibers back

prep quail; tie in by tip, wrap, tie off/trim

prep woodduck; measure (tips to bend)

tie in/trim, whip finish, SHHAN

Scott

Thanks Scott, March browns are common in the tailwaters i fish. it also could be adapted for some of the other crawler type mayflies. Besides any variation of a soft hackle has to be good
