Anyone fish the Brandywine? If so, how do I get there from S. Joisey, where can you bank fish, wade, put in a kayak, etc?
I’ve heard a lot about good trout and smallmouth fishing in the Brandywine and have the lust for travel…actually, I live 20 minutes from the Commodore Barry bridge so it’s not a big travel problem.
I’ve never fished it in any place other than the Chadds Ford area which has pretty good access north of Route 1 and near the Brandywine River Museum.
Comm. Barry/Rt 322 West to US 1 South. US 1 South about 3 miles to Chadds Ford and the river.
There also is Brandywine Creek State Park in Delaware which I have never fished but have heard decent reports about.
Comm Barry to I-95 South to Route 202 (Concord Pike) North. Route 202 (Concord Pike) North to Mt Lebanon Road in Talleyville; left on Mt Lebanon Road to the park.
If the fishing is lousy at the park it is a short drive up 202 to US 1 and down to Chadds.
I got this smallie yesterday on the West Branch of the Brandywine not far from my home.
I have a special place, about a 1/2 mille of stream and rarely is there anyone else there, except for some canoes or kayaks on the weekends. There are stocked (by the landowner) browns, rainbows and native smallies, rock bass and gills. I have caught several nice rainbows (15" plus) this year, but the browns are usually smaller. Last year someone got a 20" brown tho. I am about 20 minutes north & west of Chadds Ford. Drop me a line and we can get together sometime.
There can be decent trout fishing (Delayed Harvest area) up in Downingtown along Rt 282. Follow Bamboozles Rt 322 directions but turn on 322/202 North until you come thru West Chester, there you will exit off of 202 on to 322 towards Dowingtown. Follow 322 until you hit Rt 30 and turn right, go less than a mile just pass McDonalds and turn left at the light. Then follow signs for 282 north, you go out of town about 3 miles or so and turn right cross a small bridge yurn left and parking will be on your left, fish upstream for 1/2 mile or so.
Thanks guys; and, Dot Man I’m going to take you up on that invite…
JC - you’re right, I’ve been lazy for a while, however, I’m on this site EVERY morning at 0500 hours religiously. I tie most of the fellas’ favorite flies that they post to give a try; experiment with casting technique that is suggested, etc. I’m the silent sibling you never had!
