Finished my beautiful birch bark grip rod blank! Think it turned out real well!
Beautiful rod. Did you harvest the birch bark or buy it? I read on Rodbuildingforum.com about the whole process from selection thru harvest, cure and construction. Very interesting, and I’m sure time consuming as well. How do you like the feel of the grip in your hand? Is it like a wood grip or like cork? What did you cap the ends of the grip with? Same material as the reel seat?
When can I come out and take lessons from you? Do I have to bring my own lathe and drill press, or can I borrow yours? :lol: :lol:

This is the incredible reel seat and birch bark grip that Mike Popick made for me. He did such a fantastic job on the seat and grip, I knew I’d better do a pretty good job on the rod!! It’s as light as cork, and develops a nice warm feel in the hand. I’m anxious to fish it!!
