We have a fire about 10 miles out that has burned 12,000+ acres so far. We’re on stand-by to evacuate if the winds kick it this way. Too much lightening, too little rain. Good luck, and be safe!!!
The fire danger is “Very High” here in michigan! So far campers are only cautioned about campfires but if we don’t get some rain soon the MDNR may shut down all fires.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here!
We’re hitting Very High to Extreme in most regions North of the St-Lawrence seaway.
We MIGHT be CLOSING the forest to all non-essential travel in a few days … we’ll see …
I usually have over 40 miles of visibility out the window from my office, … but right now that’s down to 10 miles from the smoke haze drifting in from some fires we have about 150 miles from here.
(then again, … fire recurrence here is naturally up around 100-120 years, … so this IS Nature at work …)
If you’ve ever been “up close and personal” with a raging wild fire, … you’ll know you don’t do it for fun.
Take care out there. Play hard but come home safe.

In Minnesota, we have had two months of rain, rain, and more rain. Yet on the first hot (over 90 degree sunny day) people are draining the city’s water towers, watering their lawns. So the city does not have any water to put out a fire if one started…

Down in the meadow in a little bitty pool
Swam three little fishies and a mama fishie too
“Swim” said the mama fishie, “Swim if you can”
And they swam and they swam all over the dam

yup, the CA wildfire season is also upon us. even with the 125% snow level for this year, and snow still hanging out in the basins and valleys above 7000’, we are at high to extreme conditions…
I am suposed to be at a wedding Saturday about 5 miles north of Rye on some ranch. I don’t care much about that but what I do care about is, can I get to San Issabel? If not, are you fishing somewhere in the area Saturday?
As far as it looks now you shouldn’t have a problem. If I’m around I’ll be more than happy to go fishing with ya. The streams are not so good but San Isabel and Lake Beckwith are doing ok. SI is trout only, and Beckwith has SMB, Gills, Saugeye, Carp, & Cat’s as well. That’s where I spend most of my time fishing on the float tube. Send me an email when you know for sure the wedding hasn’t cancelled or moved, and I’ll give ya my number to get ahold of me. Rick

As of this morning San Isabel is still closed off. By looking at the map, the fire is about 40-45% contained. Just not on the side closest to the lake. I'll keep you updated. Dennis pushed some rain into central Michigan and it’s been raining steady for about 12 hours. A good steady soaker that will knock down the fire danger.
