Henry's Lake ID

Buzz and Betty have been staying up at Henry’s Lake for the past few weeks.

Lots of chilly weather and the fishing has been on and off, but there have been some good days and some great fish. When they first started fishing there, they were doing best with scud patterns. Buzz checked the stomach contents of one keeper, and found it was almost completely scuds, with one leech and a damsel nymph, as I recall.

Betty caught some nice fish, also.

More recently, the fish have been hitting a large midge pupa pattern. Buzz was describing the midge hatch from a few days ago looking like a bunch of worms swimming kind of like tadpoles to the surface. They got to watch the midges hatching, with the shuck splitting open, then the legs emerging, then the wings, and then midges flying off.

Even with the great hatch, very few fish take flies on top. Buzz fished a size 12 chartreuse brassie style midge pattern trailed off a damsel nymph to take this five pound cuttbow.

Got to get up that way sometime soon.

Buzz and Betty’s son, Mike, brought the grandkids up from Utah to fish Henry’s Lake last week.

Nic, age 7, got it started.

Dunking a worm, he hooked and landed a pretty nice fish.

That smile says something like SIX POUNDS of cuttbow.

Aurora, age 6, not to be outdone by her older brother, rigged up her $2.99 spinning outfit and did her own worm dunking thing.

How many of YOU would use a purple rod ?? How many of YOU would do this ??

EIGHT AND A HALF POUNDS !!

As soon as i get home tonight i’m going to go break all of my fly rods!!!

Great faces and pictures there. I’ve got to get up there and fish that lake soon. Know of any reasonable properties for sale?

Thanks for sharing.
