I was planning to tie some Clouser swimming nymphs but I wanted to make sure first, is the hen saddle the same we use for woolly buggers?
Thanks
Most people use rooster saddles for wolly buggers, but for small buggers a hen saddles makes a nice soft body hackle.

So I can use it for Clouser Swimming nymph, right?
That’s what I use for them. In fact, I use them for lots of carp patterns, nice movement and easy to work with.
great, thanks a lot. I’ll tie some today.
You can use whatever you want, they are your flies. There are no Fly Police that are going to tell you you’re wrong. Without substitution of ‘similar’ material we wouldn’t tie half the flies we do, it’s just that some materials have properties that suit a particular purpose better than others.
That’s exactly what I meant to find out when I asked if I could use hen hackle, if its properties would suit the fly I’m going to try, I’m perfectly clear on the no FLY Police checking my tying habits.
It might sound like a dumb question for some but it was something I was not sure about.
Thanks
I use hen hackle for my swimming nymphs. I’m partial to soft hackle flies.
I used the hen hackle and the nymph and I’m happy with the result. Thanks
Actually, there are fly police. They’re watching right now so be very caref…
I dressed in camo to comment on this post less the fly police spot me, I use Hen Hackle for whatever I can because of the movement it gives a fly. There’s more than one way to skin a cat or tie a fly.
Shhhh…Bruce
You will only see the Fly Police if the hen hackle works.
It did work but I have to wait 'till summer to try the flies out. Where in California do you fish ibrb?
Except for situations involving barbless hooks and some weighted flies there are no fly police except for the fish. Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year.
