hemostat blood knot...

…just for information.

i’m not saying its the greatest thing since sliced bread. it may help folks who have trouble tying blood knots

I like it. Sometimes my fingers feel and move like thumbs when out on the water. This would make things much easier as I have a hemostat with me while fishing. What is confusing me is the reference to tippet to flyline. Shouldn’t there be a leader in there? Would this knot be ok for leader to flyline or tippet to leader? I use the surgeons knot for tippet to leader and thought this might be easier. Thanks for the post and link.

That’s a really cool knot method.

It’s not clear to me how many turns to make. ???

Edit… I just went back and looked at some other knots on that website and the Seaguar Knot is identical as far as I can tell. And the instructions for it say 3 turns.

The magic number with knots seems to be 5. That is what there is in a regular blood knot on either side.

I gotta try that. It looks fast and secure. The hemostats need to do something besides hang on my vest.

It is a very strong knot although it is not really a blood knot. I use my fingers to tie it is lighting fast and it is called a seaguar knot. I think some of the old saltwater fisherman just call it a tippet Knot

the article did call it an “orvis tippet knot”

i use a 3 turn blood knot and it holds perfectly

I don’t think it’s an Orvis Tippet Knot. Here’s a link to the Orvis knot page.

If you Google ‘Christopher Knot’ you will also see another version - perhaps the original one.

The Orvis knot and the Christopher knot are not really blood knots, they are more like ‘fancy’ Surgeon’s or Figure 8 knots.
