Help with Perrine Reels

I have three Perrine auto reels from 40 years ago that are in perfect condition but have some little glitch that keeps each one from holding the tension in the spring.
I’m not sure when I’d use them again, but I hate to have them not working – even in storage.
I’ve looked everywhere I can think of on the Internet with no luck for repair suggestions and fly repair shops just laugh.
Any thoughts?

Hello CoachBob, do you mean that when you wind the Perrines that the winder just keeps winding and winding but they don’t retrieve when you lift the lever? Or is it something else…I have a few of these and have had various problems.

One thing I’ll suggest and that is if you’re not confident taking things apart that have springs inside, then you might want to consider finding someone that knows how to work on them. Hope this doesn’t discourage.

Cheers,

MontanaMoose

The springs won’t stay loaded or won’t catch to load.
I’ve tried everywhere I know and can’t find anyone to fix them.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If I remember correctly there is either a downward facing “finger” on the spring which may have broken off or popped out of the retaining hole, or there may be some mechanism to trap the end of the spring to hold tension. Not sure which one. You may want to CAREFULLY take one down to see what’s going on in there. If the spring isn’t under tension, it shouldn’t be a big deal to do…

in Florida is an expert on all reels. I can’t find his card, I’ll keep looking, but I’m sure someone else has it. Help?
