Hi, anybody know how to tie this fly?

The thorax and wing look straight forward, but I’m not sure how to do the extended body. What material is it? / How do you make it? Thanks.

Neat site, Normand. I saw him tie this fly a few years ago at College Park Fly Show. Took a piece of E-Z Dub, frayed the end with bodkin (applied a small amount of head cement at that point), tied it to the hook and then added wing and hackle. Pretty simple.

E-Z Dub isn’t quite like loose dubbing; it’s more like very fine, rough, buggy twine.

You can also get generally the same effect with twisted kip tail glued at the smallest point of the twist (before the flare).

Glue or varnish are no use as they simply stick it to the needle
Get some darning needles or various size needles to match body sizes. I insert these needles into wooden dowels for ease of use. Get some clear silicone (hardware store) dip needle into silicone coating needle. Then take 2 tails, if you want tails, and lay them on the sides of the tip of the silicone coated needle. Then take your dubbing and starting at the base twist the needle and slowly work up the thread applying the dubbing toward the tail. Long fiber dubbing an be wrapped like yarn. Take some silicone on your finger and then slightly coat the body if you wish. Once the body is finished (about 15 seconds), put your thumb nail at the base of the body and push off, lay on a pice of paper towel etc. to dry. Make many at a time as they are fast. Wear latex gloves or similar if you do not want the silicone on your hands.
