Is the Creekside still open in East Freedom. Used to eat the quite a bit. I fished that creek a good deal too. It isn’t a great stretch considering all the other choices in the area. But where else could you cast a line then lift a few?

There was another great place to eat down in Bedford Co along Yellow Creek. I’d fish fly fishing only section in the evening until dark then meet my wife there for dinner. I remember they had great chicken and dumplings there. And ham pot pie like my mother makes.

Just thinking about it all makes me hungry and homesick.

creekside is still open, yes the dinner is still open, cant rem. the name but thay still have the good food, still make the left turn at the dinner, thay moved the highway around the town, the problem with fishing yellow creek is parking unless they made a parking lot,can park along the road…dont get to homesick lol

PG Flyfisher , New Frontier Restaurant - Loysburg -remember the name

That’s the place.

I always parked along the side of the road at Yellow Creek. The only problem I really had there was with one of the property owners. The guy along the south side of the creek at the downstream terminus of the fly fishing only section doesn’t like people on his property. One of the first times I fished their I ended up on his property after crossing the upstream. He grabed my by the vest and threatened to bust my rod and call the cops the next time he caught me. Needless to say I gave him a wide birth after that.

Welcome from another Pa. fisherman. I am a bit north east of Harrisburg. Clarks is my home stream but am blessed with lots of really nice water within decent driving time.

PG Flyfisher, i think i know who your talking about,…never a problem with him.if its the guy with the lawn along the stream bank.nope no parking along the road, township posted signs all along it…was giving out tickets.

Hi Little Juniata, I’m from western maryland, Frostburg , to be exact. I used to fish Yellow creek alot until parking became a problem. Have not been there in 2 years, has the parking problem improved? I really enjoyed fishing that stream in the delayed harvest area, never had a problem with any of the landowners and often talked with the fellow that had the pavilion next to the stream at the bottom of the delayed harvest section, I can’t remember his name but he seemed like a nice guy. How far is the little J from yellow creek? I’ve heard alot about it but never been there. If you would like some info on the western maryland streams, send me an email. Talk to you later.

MidgeMadness: I really don’t know how far it is but it is worth the trip, I am about an hour from Bedford, so I would think about 45 minutes from Loysburg. You can help nail down the Grannom hatch, since you guys should get them a week or so before we do.

Google Map says 93 miles and 2 hours from Frostburg Md To Alexandria Pa

Welcome Lil’ J:

I hail from the eastern part of the state although I spend lots of time in South Central PA crawling around in Vince’s Meadow and more than a few days on Clark’s.

Besides my usual backyard haunts I hope to fish the Little J for the first time this year.

Hi LJ,
I’m from Bedford County; Osterburg area. I fish Yellow Creek, just up the road from my place about 7 miles. And yeah, the New Frontier is a decent place to grab a meal!

I’m very surprised to see how many people are from this area.

Buildsrods - - - The last time I fished Yellow Creek, you could still park along the road. I reckon someone must have complained enough. If I recall, wasn’t there a clearing just past the creek where you could park? Since parking has become an issue, it must have taken some of the pressure off of the fish. As you are looking upstream from the base of the FFO Section, the folks the the right were always nice and friendly. However, the guy to the left, where the bank becomes overgrown, he’s the one you have to watch out for.

MidgeMadness - - - There are several ways to get to the Little J from Yellow Creek. For the most part, the Little J follows Rt 45 southeast of Tyrone. If you follow Rt 45 you will see several spots to pull off, park and fish. An easy way to get there from Yellow Creek is to follow 866 through Martinsbugh through Willamsbugh until you come to Rt 22. Once you are at Rt 22 turn right and head northeast until the intersection with Rt 45. Turn Left and follow Rt 45 until you see a good spot to pull over and fish.

PATroutChaser ,east freedom - claysburg area ,i fish yellow creek on the way to the river at saxton or on the way home from the river,

Thanks to all for the directions, I’m going to have to make the trip to the little J this year. Has anyone fished yellow creek this year? Should be gettin time for some of the smaller flies to be hatching.

Little J are you the one that has been beating me so badly on the ebay Pflueger Medalists of late…??
You are excused I dont need anymore anyway.

Welcome

Dear Little J,

Welcome aboard. I’m in Harrisburg, but I’ve never fished the Little Juniata. For some strange reason I have a real hard time driving west of State College.

Regards,
Tim Murphy

Midge,
I fished Yellow last Saturday in the DH area. Not a soul around except for me!

I managed to land 3 and lose 1. Two 'bows, one ~15" and one ~13". And one really nice Brown ~14". Fishing the water deep and slow.

There were midges coming off where the sun was warming the water…but no surface activity.
