Hellekson's Little Grey Goose Nymph SBS

Variation on the Frank Sawyer pattern; change size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 060 #14
thread - Danville 6/0 grey
rib - x-fine copper wire
tail - moose body hair
abdomen - goose quill barbs
thorax - fluff from the base of a goose quill
wingcase - goose quill
legs - hen hackle dun (Hellekson’s pattern used a couple fibers from the wingcase as legs but I couldn’t get that to look right, so I switched to hackle)

Part 1

mash barb, start thread, tie in rib, wrap to point above barb

clean, stack, measure (gap width past bend) some moose body hairs; tie in/trim

tie in a few goose quill barbs; wrap to 2/3 mark; tie off/trim

counterwrap rib; helicopter end, cover with thread

separate another quill segment (not quite gap width); tie in

Part 2

dub thread with fluff (a bit of wax may help); dub thorax

lay portion of hen hackle at front of thorax; 2 soft loops, pull 'till barbs are correct length (hook point), tie off/trim

pull wingcase forward

trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN
