some hellacious mudslides as well. They are all-consuming.

10 - 17 inches of rainfall in 24 hours in many areas
129 mph winds clocked at the coast.
towns isolated by losing access in any direction
rivers/creeks reach record flood stages
yup, some folks were affected… to be sure.

Hi everyone i havnt been on for a while, but I just wanted to add a couple of things to your post. Well i work for the garbage company, and we sent about 20 40 yard drop boxs to chehalis, wa which is norht of vancouver,wa. Their walmart had 7 feet of water in it!! i was amazed, I saw a pic of I-5 and the water was at the bottum of the mileage signs, i couldnt belive it. but the water is down now, and all is going well.

You gotta be tough to live in the West 8)

Got, THAT, right Ducksterman!! haha!! WHY…do you think, they call us “The Oregon Ducks”!!! Or, “the Oregon Beavers”!? Both animals survive well in overly abundant amounts of water!!

Although… neither do I wish to make fun of this last series of storms. Lives were lost and BILLIONS, not MILLIONS of dollars of property damage was incurred.

Linda and I lost our roof, our living room ceiling, two windows and frames, a bathroom ceiling, (about 50% of it, anyway), many old trees and a lot of pasture fence. But, as in my other post on this storm, WE are “some of the lucky ones”, because we have two friends, that lost their entire homes to this storm. Both, homes, are so badly damaged from falling trees and the subsequent water damage to their interiors… they can only be razed and then, rebuilt from the ground up.

According to the National Weather Service and NOAA, wind gusts were clocked at:
129 MPH at Canon Beach
137 MPH at Tillamook Head-(Seaside area, where we live)
151 MPH at Long Beach-(across the Columbia River, from the Seaside-Astoria area).
The “sustained winds”, that lasted for over 42 hours were a constant 85 to 105 MPH.

A small logging community, inland from us about 45 miles, (Vernonia), was deluged when the Nehalem River went over it’s banks and through two dikes, protecting the small town. The National Guard and US Coast Guard both, rescued 114 people, from the roofs of their homes there.

As mentioned, north of Vancouver, Wash, and inland again, from where we live, the towns of Chehalis & Centralia, Wash. where under 10 feet of water, along that stretch of Interstate 5. (where the WalMart was located), due to the rising suddenly of two local rivers.

So, yeah, we had “a little wind storm and excess rainfall”, as my brother living in Chicago had heard! And, it’s going to take YEARS, for things to return to normal, because of it!!

Paul

thanks for asking.
I was one of the lucky ones i live neer the siletz river oregon, not in the flood zone. had a littel wind damage a tree almost hit my boat and my neighbors house. but many realy got hit hard and lost everything. :frowning:

I’m not sure if this will help, but several days ago I was canoeing with my new fly fishin’ bud ‘backcastwards’ from near here on a completely flat and windless lake. It was cold though but the sun came out once in a while and that felt really great on the backs of the hands.

Winter cheers,

Oregonian and Flybinder,

Down here we call that kind of weather… Hurricanes!

Sorry that you and yours had to experience such an event.

I hope that y’all are able to come though these times quickly.

Bowfin47

Bowfin;
Thank you, very much, for your kind words.
Actually, the National Weather Service and “NOAA”, DID label this latest storm we had as… “The FIRST EVER, recorded hurricane on the North Oregon and Southwest Washington coasts”.
“Another one, for the history books”, I guess!

Paul

flybinder , Holy Crap! I’m glad you’re all right , did you have insurance? Man I hope so . Not the best time of year to lose a roof either.

Paul,
I just became aware you lost your roof and I’m very sorry about that. I hope the insurance co. helps you soon!
Doug

Thank you, all again for the words and thoughts. Coming from people “I know, but have never met”, it truthfully, means a lot to me.
Now, “Insurance”, isn’t a very nice “word” around the old Wilmoth hacienda right now. We’re in the midst of remodeling an old, near antique stage, farm house. Among many things left to be taken care of, one was the removal of an old “Mother In-Law door”, on the second floor.

That’s any door, built into a home, that when opened, leads only to a 20’ drop. You’re supposed to "Tell your Mother In-Law, when she visits the first time… “The bathroom? Oh, it’s right through, THAT DOOR over there!”

We have one, on our house, because it once opened onto a small landing and an outside stairway.

Anyhooo, I hadn't removed it, yet, too many other things to do first so 9 days before the storm hit we received a letter telling us our home owner's insurance had been canceled, due to that door and also "Because of un-safe piles of building materials around the property, which could lead to personal injury", end quote.
I'm not too sure, HOW one is supposed to remodel an entire house, WITHOUT "piles of building materials sitting around the outside", because to ME anyway............. lumber's always been rather handy, to build things with!??!

Regardless, it still ends up, with "no home owner's at the time the storm hit".

Plus, I have to go in for my final test results tomorrow, to find out if my Parkinson’s has advanced, (that I was diagnosed with last month), and if the other biopsies are malignant or not. I guess, if both things turn out negative, my bride can use my life insurance to fix that Mother in-Law’s door!?! (and, replace the storm damage), and even spend a few weeks in Hawaii while the work’s being done!!
What’s that old saying…??? “When it rains, it always heads for MY house?” Or, is it, “When it rains, the water rises so the Steelhead can come into the rivers”!!! I think I like, the second one better…

Paul

Wonderful news! (If you’re a friggen DUCK!) For our FAOL members up and down the Oregon and Washington coastal areas…
NOAA just sent out an “alert”, (over my personal emergency weather alert radio), that;(quote) “A series of strong Pacific fronts will be moving on shore tonight and through the day on Sunday.
Associated with these two fronts, there will be rainfall in amounts close to 4to 7 inches, over a 12 hour period along with winds in excess of 55MPH, with possible gusts to 75MPH. This latest storm, can be expected to last from 18 to 24 hours. Wind damage, power outages and downed trees, should be be expected and preparations made for, due to the recent hurricane of Dec.2nd and 3rd.”. (end quote)

So, hopefully JC and LF and the rest of us, throughout the area of these storms, we’ll make it through, ONE MORE TIME!?!
(I guess, I’m going to have to line my 1wt, thru 6wts. with some 12wt. lines if this wind stuff keeps up!?)

Paul

Sure hope we don’t lose power today, got a few things to do on FAOL… 8)

JC:
Not sure, now, WHAT’S going on with this “NEW” storm we’re supposed to have!?! Again, this morning, I got another alert on my NOAA radio about the storm and again, it stated about the same info and also that the storm was "supposed to make landfall by 8:00AM, then blow until around 4:00PM.

However… it’s now, after 1:00PM, here, and not a BREATH of wind, has risen!?

But, ya’ know Oregon and Washington weather… “Don’t take anything for granted and never turn your back on it”!?!
