Headwaters

Im going fishing this weekend to an area where the river I want to fish is low and warm and unfishable. Will the upper headwaters deal me the same fate or will they be fishable? I thought that headwater streams stayed cool all summer?

Thanks for any help
Doug

two questions to consider:

  1. is there an appreciable elevation gain which might influence the temperature?
  2. if so, can you take the temperature of the water to assess suitability for fishing? My thought is that the water would be cooler when closer to its mountain source. That is the case where I fish and I will be heading up river thirty miles or so where I know that the water is cooler

paflyfisher,

Has Seege been able to get ahold of you…?
Hes sent out an email to all of us in the hopper swap asking us to keep an eye out and let you know he needs your flies this week,To finnish out the swap.

Have a good time fish’in.

“I’ve often wondered why it is that so many anglers spend so much money on,and pay so much attention to.the details on the wrong end of the fly line.If they took as much care in selecting or tying their flies as they did in the selection of the reel and rod,They might be able to gain the real extra edge that makes it possible to fool a fish that has,in fact, seen it all before” A.K.Best

Garden, thanks for the info, Im not really sure about the elevation or anything like that as its my first time heading the the area. I guess I’ll have to ask some locals.

Bill, yup talked to seege and got them out today.

Doug,

From where you are at go to Clark’s Creek north of Harrisburg. I don’t know about levels, but it is shaded with hemlocks and the water temps are usually good. Or closer to home try the Tully in Reading. Go early too.
