…or guide advertised in the back of most fly fishing/tying magazines?? how was your experience?
I found Battenkill Anglers in Vermont and Gates Ausable Lodge in Michigan through magazine ads. Had a good experience with Tom Goodman of Battenkill Anglers, he taught me a lot. Gates Ausable Lodge is our annual trip in the fall and if you’ve read the Michigan Fishin reports that says it all.

where are they at?
Normand;
Gate’s Lodge is located on the Au Sable River 6 miles East of Grayling, MI. They are also a sponsor.
Where are the reports or where is the AuSauble Lodge? Jack covered the Lodge location … the mini-reports can be found on pages one and two of the sound off section, pages one and two of this section, and on the home page, left column, "Fish-Ins’. The full report, and pictures, from this year are not complete, as the fish-in just finished up a week ago.
<some people I know have JUST returned home!!:p>
I’ll also chime in on Gates Lodge near Grayling. (upper Ausable River & Branches/ upper Manistee)
I’ll also suggest (Ray)Schmidts Outfitters in Wellston, Michigan as another outstanding service provider. (Manistee, Pere Marquette, Little Manistee and Pine River)
My mistake Normand, I meant to say the Fish In threads from the past two years and the ones leading up to this year’s event. I believe this is the
at least the third consecutive year they have used Gates Ausable Lodge as the Fish In HQ. In any case, I found them through their magazine ad and am glad I did. They are reasonably priced, full service if you want, or just a place to sleep after fishing if you want, either way, they are glad to have you as their guest. You would not be disappointed if you stay there.

Ive been going there (Gates AuSable Lodge) since the late 70’s—my fishing buddy found an ad in a magazine—its one of my favorite places to stay.
