Have you ever noticed that when you think you have the perfect fly tied…

You forget that you have the sisors on the wrong fingers and have just cut your thread as you put the final wrap on the head of the fly… :shock:

then you have to get the plyers to hold the now loose thread and start to wrap again to hold the whole thing together…resulting in a too big head …

ooohhh well now it’s time for some Jim Beam and ice and so what the hell. the fish don’t care about perfect any way…UNLESS …

it is your cast…

and then that is some times only…

where is that whiskey glass :wink:

You can be as pedantic as you like - the only piece of the whole damned outfit the fish gets to see is the fly you just tied. Is it going to trigger a take or not? Its not as if the fish will wait for a better fly.

Unwrap head, apply super glue to thread, rewrap thread, trim

i never tie “perfect” flies so i’m glad it doesnt happen to me either! 8) 8)

I happen to know this trick because…don’t ask.

Good tip because I’m always either breaking the thread, cutting it, or whatever. Hey it’s what makes life bearable not being perfect.

Is there any such thing as tying the perfect fly?

Can it be done ? I think it would be for the tiers ego only, as I know some of my best fishing has been with my screw ups that have ended up in my fly boxes, because I would not give or sell them to the intended recipients.

i just open vise take hook and drop in trash can, take a long break,
if its more than one oh oh. then i start over after break

Why throw it in the trash? I tie for a fly shop, and when I don’t like the looks of a fly, I put it aside to use my self. I catch more fish when the fly is chewed up than when it is new.

cause if you made a goof and its totaly no good and has to be ree done.
id trash so i can start fresh. if u can patch it then you can use it your self.

I have a Red Butt Brown that’s such a tart
She’ll land the big ones time after time
So, if it’s caddis fly’s you want
Take some of mine, not!!
A JD and Coke would be nice about now
But I’ve got to get up early to make the big show

Just got back from the Crow in SW Alberta and it was great got chased of the Oldman river by a Grizzly, my wonderful wife saved my life there… she saw the bear coming for me across the river , I saw nothing and when she hollered BEAR I thought it was after her so up the bank I go which got me out of the water and when I got to her she showed me the bear stand were I just was…
