Norm, that sure looks a heck of a lot better than any duck turds I have ever seen.
In addition to your incredible tying skills, your photography is superb. Please share your photography setup with us.
Here is my photo setup
Norm, thank you for this valuable information. I like the idea of the document holder. It looks like the background material is slightly curved.
Pipes
very very slightly curved
doesnt appear curved in photos
I agree with Pipes here on multiple issues. First, that is a really great tie, Norm. Additionally, your setup for capturing the images on your flies is really nice - thank you for sharing the link. I have kicked around the idea of putting some sort of solid background behind my vice while tying to see if it makes a difference on my eyes.
Norm’s document holder has a smaller footprint and nicer looking compared to the wood block I use. I thought it held the paper with a slight curve. Must be my old eyes… A slot was cut in the wood block at an ever so slight angle (5-6 degrees?) to hold a square of cardboard backing and a sheet of card stock paper. This allows a quick color change. I also have a few metal binder clips with small magnets on the top edge of the paper/cardboard. This gives me a place to park wet flies or hooks. Easily removable for photography use. For a general-purpose backdrop, I like the Icy Mint color card stock. Soft on the old eyes and satisfactory for most photography use other than light color flies.
