Harsens Isl/ Middle Channel white bass

Went out to Harsens Isl today on a solo pike hunt. Rented a small rowboat to get into the Channel and started out looking for pike along shore. No weed beds, no solid strikes. Water was flat and I could see fish hittng hex’s that had blown into the water. Tied on a hex pattern and nabbed two white bass. I have never seen them selectivly feeding on hex’s before but there they were. Picked up a few before the wind kicked up and blew the hex into the main channel. Put on a deep water clouser and began casting to the steeper drop offs. As the boat drifted so did the streamer and fly line; all i had to do was wait for tension or the tell tale tap and it was fish on. Didn’t count but i had to be close to 40 white bass and one perch. Another great MI day.

They sure are fun, aren’t they?

That sounds like a GREAT day of fishing!
Did you use floating line or sinking line?

floating line so it was tuff to get it down. looong leader and plenty of time.

All the pike took off for a coupel of weeks because of Jobie Nooner last weekend out at Gull Island

Those are some nice white bass Greg, thanks for sharing the pictures. We did real well with the pumpkin seeds and small mouth bass out in front of Selfridge a couple of weeks ago, had a ball.

Very cool! I would love to get into a mess of white bass! Pike are also on my list but I only get a weeks chance a year to make it happen.

Not much longer and the good times are gonna come to a screatching hault…was out with a buddy a week ago battleing storms and a strong wind in front of the beach and we managed 58 counted fish…29 a piece…white, smallmouth and largemouth. Pike have already moved to more tempert water. Time to start hitting the rivers soon.
