"Hans' version of Bob Wyatt's DHE fly"????

While Hans is a highly respected tier it would seem only reasonable for him to at least send a message to resolve our concerns.
Has anyone tried to contact him?

Ray,
There are NO concerns!!
As explained in several posts above, he is well, just not posting here! He does post on the forum about “Flymphs”…

http://www.flymphforum.com

As explained above, I was tying his version of one of Bob Wyatt’s flies and recalled that Hans isn’t posting here anymore, so Tongue-In-Cheek, said “In memory of…”

An attempt at humor, Ray.

I have asked the Admin to change the title of my original post. Wow!!

chuckle

Rumors of my demise are (fortunately) greatly exaggerated.

Alive and doing well, thanks.

There may even be a couple new videos in the near future

Regards to all.

The trouble with being popular, Hans, is that you are missed when absent. Thanks for checking in.

Now you will understand why Byron made his fortune in finance instead of advertising.

Hans up…! Don’t shoot… !
I love happy endings…

Aha, Jesse…and how did you know my career was in finance…???

Byron, I have done a little investigating, but you are easy, it’s on your profile.

Ahhh…the 'Ol profile trick…

Rumors have it that after Hans passed on the afterlife that he contacted a medium and passed on his password to perpetuate his memory by posting perpetually.
(Of course a round of new videos might help to dispel this myth, but the hardcore conspiracy theorists will quickly point out that after not posting videos for a year, Hans is bound to have saved a stockpile for passing on after passing on…)

Regards.
Ed, who might need to contemplate decaf…

My chief mentor when I went to work in the hospitality loss prevention industry taught me many useful things. One of the most useful was “don’t overlook the obvious.” He was formerly in charge of organized crime unit for the TN BI. I was also mentored by a couple of retired FBI agents.

I would love to read Hans’ opinion about Bob Wyatt’s DVDs and his philosophy about fly-tying. Can anyone supply a link to Hans’ opinion? I would appreciate your sharing. As those of you who have seen these videos know, Bob Wyatt’s ideas might be considered very radical by some folks in the fly tying world.
Many thanks,
George

George,
I only know that hans came up with a fairly slight modification of Wyatt’s pattern, so he presumably liked Wyatt’s original Deer Hair Emerger.
Have you watched Hans’ introduction to his version where he credits Bob in Hans’ video??

George,

This is embarrassing…

I misnamed the thread for some reason. This pattern is Hans’ version of a Sparkle Dun as I say in my original post…not the Wyatt fly.

However, if you look at Hans’ YouTube video of his DHE2.0, he mentions it is based on Bob Wyatt’s revised Deer Hair Emerger which Hans refers to as a “Well established pattern”.

So, at least in this one pattern of Wyatt’s original tie, Hans found value.

Hi George,

Bob and I have been friends for quite a few years. Our respective thoughts and opinions on fly design and trout behavior are very very similar - to the extent that I would be hard pushed to think of any meaningful difference.

Cheers,
Hans W

He does eschew CDC, though. I think he prefers other materials due to CDC’s tendency to not float well following being slimed after a catch.
Perhaps that is what George was referring to?

Perhaps. He has little problem with the CDC&Elk - on account of the deer hair wing

Cheers,
Hans W

He also uses snowshoe hare in his DHE in lieu of deer hair sometimes, but not a fan of CDC.

It’s good to see the return of Hans. Welcome back.

Regards,
Ed
