hankering for a new project

Got a couple rods to finish, thinking about the next one.

I am trying to decide between aDan Craft ft lite 8’ 6pc 3wt and a St Croix SC3 Avid 7’9" 4pc 3wt. Going light: on the reelseat, an downlocking slide ring; single foot tich guides; western grip cut to 6 1/2".

Anyone tried either of these rods?

Greg

Sorry I can’t say I have experience with either of those rods, BUT I have had recurring interest in the FTL. If I may ask, what are the reasons you’re considering the FTL. The little bit of information I’ve located indicates that most of Dan Craft’s blanks are on the fast side. Of course I’ve never handled a DC product, and I know “fast” can be relative.

Have you tried calling Dan? I understand he’s a great help.

So there you have it; you ask for some usable info, and you get some fool asking you questions instead!

I am interested in the choice you make and why.

Now I will step aside and allow someone to post something worthwhile.

Second on calling Dan. He knows his line of blanks, and if you tell him what you are after, he can get you pointed in the right direction. I have one of his old Sig V blanks and absolutely love it but can’t speak for the new Sig V line. I’m considering a Sig 3 or a regular FT 6 weight at some point. They are supposed to be able to cast a wide range of line weights very well.

I have a sc3(avid) 7’6’’ 4wt and a 7’6’’ 4wt rx7 in the blank pile right now they are almost the same but the st croix is more expensive, but both are good blanks, never had a DC blank sorry cant help you there

Bugsy,

I narrowed it down to these choices because:

  1. I have a 7’9" 3wt RX7 that I like plenty other than that it is a 2 pc., will toss a streamer no problem
  2. I want something similar that packs smaller
  3. The Avid is a nice color rather than black
  4. I have a Legend Ultra 5 wt and I figure the new SCIII is probably just as nice and a lot less money
  5. The Dan Craft is even more packable 6 pc.
  6. The Dan Craft FTL is moderate fast rather than the FT which is fast

There isn’t much data on these new blanks yet so I was asking. Couldn’t hurt to ask Dan, good point.
I casted a DC FT 8 wt at the FF show once and couldn’t really figure it out in the time I had to try it. I have a Legend Ultra 8 wt that suites me fine.
