Half (more like 2/3) Down Hopper SBS

John Gould’s hopper emerger(?) or is it a Klinkhopper?

hook - Tiemco 5212 #10
thread - Uni 8/0 camel
abdomen - marabou blood quill tan
rib - copper wire x-small
wing - elk
thorax - dubbing brown
post - Congo Hair white
hackle - grizzly
legs - round rubber barred tan

Part 1

Pattern calls for a MFC 7073 bent shank; didn’t have any so I rolled my own with a pair of pliers

start thread at the angle and wrap rib back to point above barb

tie in marabou blood by tips and wrap back

twist marabou and wrap forward to initial tie in; wrap rib forward, helicopter and tie off

clean, stack and measure (let tips extend to hook bend) a clump of elk

tie in wing; trim butts and cover with thread wraps

Part 2

tie in a clump of Congo Hair; post it and tie in hackle

tie in legs

dub thorax; finish with thread at base of post

grab hackle and start wrapping post from top down

wraps hackle; let it hang down, take 2 horizontal turns of thread at base of post to capture hackle, half hitch x 2, SHHAN, trim legs, trim post
