Guests and Banned People in Chat

Question for JC and/or LF:

It seems that people who are banned from posting on the forum are now also banned from chat due to integrated database usage in flashchat. It’s possible that the new interface is just confusing and I’m wrong but I don’t think so.

I also don’t see a way for unregistered guests to login to chat anymore.

Is this the new policy or is the new chatroom still being tweaked with regard to these logins?

It seems to me that if they are banned from the board that them being banned from chat makes sense. In fact they are being banned from the site which to me makes more logical.

I do wish there were a concept of second chances here but alas there is not. This has been discussed here before and I hope that I do not restart a discussion that has been put to bed.

As to the question of banning and unbanning, I don’t know if this will work for sure, but prostrating oneself before the moderators and begging forgiveness has historically worked in other places. The Hittites and Sumerians ,as overmywaders would probably confirm, used this form of contrition extensively.You know what they all say, " if it’s good enough for the Sumerians…

On the other hand, perhaps even a simple apology or some such might work too.:slight_smile:

Thanks, Jed and Marco. I just edited my post to make my question more accurate. I just want to know what the policy is rather than start a debate about it.

Banning is ‘global’ but, not always fatel. “I do wish there were a concept of second chances here but alas there is not.” Who set that rule? When a person does get banned and writes me a blistering attack, I tend to leave the ban on,and on, and on.

Thanks, JC. So can a non-registered guest participate in the new chatroom?

And I’m also trying to find the forum rules and can’t see them anywhere. That’s quite likely me being dense.

I’m putting a webpage together for my flyfishing club at the college and I want to let them know about this forum and chat but I want to make the rules known and whether to tell them that they have to register in order to chat.

It took a while to find the rules because I’m automatically logged in whenever I come to the site so I never saw the register button at all. Biot finally sold me a clue.
