Are you preparing your own stripped/dyed peacock or buying it? If the latter, from what company?

The dyed quills, a couple of colors, were a present from a friend. The dye used is Dylon fabric dye.

Thanks. Like most things material, the difficulty is getting the ‘good’ stuff. Heck, even T. Gordon mentioned thisd numerous times in his Letters. That was over 100 years ago.

It’s not the dyes that are hard to get. There’s at least 1 craft store nearby that carries the brand. It’s the large and correctly segmented peacock eye feathers. And let me tell you, they are not easy to get. You probably know, but I’ll write this anyway, that in one of his letters to Skues, T. Gordon described the same difficulty and also wrote that the English peacock is better for this purpose then the Asian peacock. I don’t know if that’s true. Just mentioning what he wrote. Care to weigh in on that opinion.

Allan,

I just start with the eye portion of a mature peacock tail feather. I cannot say I have found it very difficult to get well marked quills.
