I took the kayak to my favorite small lake yesterday and had absolutely the best day ever. I fished a size 6 foam slider tied with white foam over black large crystal chenille, blue craft fur tail with a bit of flash. I also used this in a green and white version. These were the only flies I used all day and caught around 50 fish in 3 hours. 2 of the bigget Bluegills I ever caught, pumkinseeds, 6 largemouths, and over a dozen crappie (4 of which were around 2 pounds). All on a custom 6’10" 4wt and topwater!!! I stayed in the same small cove working the lilly pad edges the entire time and had it all to myself.
There is a price of admission for this type of day and my prescription glasses were it. I knocked them off my head when a huge dragonfly divebombed me. The look of disbelief on my face must have been hilarious! A trip to Lenscrafters rounded out my day and you can be sure that I bought a pair of croakies for the new glasses.
