Great fly for Bluegills and Crappie

I have been playing around with a fly that works great and catches the heck out of Gills and Crappie.

Hook…Scud hook size 16 thru 6— debarbed
Thread…Brown 8/0-6/0
Beads…White Glass, Pink Glass, 3 for smaller flies and 4 beads for larger flies
Body…Peacock herl between beads
Tail…Pheasant Tail barbs about 4
Over Wing.Pearl Krystal Flash

Tying it all together: Take Hook and debarb, Place 3 to 4 beads on hook in this order 1 White-1 Pink-1 or 2 White. Working from head bead tie in herl between beads# 1 & 2, tie off, moving to bead # 3 retie thread, tie on herl, tie off, do same for # 3 and 4 beads retie on thread and tie on tail of 4 Pheasant tail barbs. Between Bead 1 and 2 tie on 2 inches of Pearl Krystal Flash, double over flash material after tied in and tie in again, Tie off fly at this point. Trim flash material even with rear of hook. Weight can be added if fishing deeper than 5 feet deep.

Easy to fish–strip line in slowly and hang on because this fly really works well.

Sorry I don’t have a camera to take pictures with but the fly isn’t that hard to tie.

Thanks for posting that! 8)

Your welcome… I also tie a Pheasant Tail nymph which I put a over wing of Krystal Flash in either Pearl, Red or Blue flash material that the Gills just love (trim even with the rear of hook). These two flies have produced many fish this year while others have sat fish-less.
