Great Fly Fishing Books

I broke down and bought “A river runs through it, and other stories” by Norman Maclean. I must say it’s awesome! And that got me to thinking…

Why not have a list here on the site of good books to read that are related to fly fishing and have some of the experienced fishermen post a review of each one. We would need qualified volunteers to read the books and send the review to Mr and Mrs Castwell for his/her approval and to be posted.

So, What do you think?

You could start here[/url:4119a].
Then go to this place[/url:4119a]. There are other places in here but I have to go to work. Enjoy the search.
Cordially,

p.s. and yes, I would like some new book reviews, too.

Here’s a review of a book for you, a book which I recommend you NOT read.

Having read many many books on flyfishing, I came across a book in my local big box book store that I hadn’t hear of before: Zipping My Fly: Moments in the Life of an American Sportsman by Rich Tosches. I read the back cover of the book to get a feel for what it was about, and it seemed genuine enough - a few short stories strung together with some good ol boy humor thrown in for good measure. Hey, we all like Gierach right? It didnt sound too far off.

Well I cannot begin to tell you how poorly this book is written. Every other sentence has some kind of lame punch line in it…it reminds me of a story told by a really shady car salesman. The guy is really reaching for a laugh way to often.

I’m sure the stories would be pretty decent without all of the lame humor, but I for one could not make it past chapter two of this one.

Currently reading The One That Got Away. Its bunch of short stories by Hemingway, Zane Grey and many other writers on fishing. Bought it at an Garage Sale recently and have been reading it the few chances I have as of late. It so good I sat reading until 12 last night even though I had to get up at 5 AM this morning for work.

I don’t know if you would consider it “great” But I checked it out of our local library several times and could do it again. I get books on tape to listen to while I’m driving, it seems to make the day go much faster. The book is “The River Home” by Jerry Dennis.

I don’t mean to hijack this thread but if anyone has listened to any goof books on tape as well I’d be interested in hearing about them.

Thanks,
Rusty <><

“PC” is for Plant City not Politically Correct. if you wanna catch something ya gotta get a hook in the water

I got Zipping my Fly for Christmas a couple of years ago and I have to agree it’s really, really bad. He tries so hard to make bad jokes it ruins the book. thanks for the comments
