Great Barrier Island NZ

Hi Guys, just had the yearly weekend trip to Great Barrier Island and to be honest it was a bit of a disaster. 20 guys on 2 boats and one of the boats hit something big on the way over that ripped one of the engines of its mounts so that was the end of the weekend for those guys.
Saturday blew up to 45 knots from the South East and some of the squalls were really bad so we were restricted to fishing in close to the Island.
We still managed to fill the bin up with smallish Snapper and one large Kingfish but compared to the last 2 years it was hard.
Here is a pic from after the storms on Saturday evening.

The next day was much better and we even managed a swim and a few more fish before heading home.

Can hardly wait for next years trip.
All the best.
Mike

That is a beautiful sunset!

“… red sky at night, sailor’s delight …”

“…red sky at night is sailor’s delight and red sky in the morning sailor’s take warning…”

Hi Mike,

I’ve been looking for your trip report. A shame it went a bit sour (especially for the other boat!) Oh well, the sunset shot is a winner, and a feed of even smallish snapper is nice. Kingie’s are good too. Next year, though, that one will be a biggie for sure!

Thanks, Mike. Outstanding report and pics. The thoughts of summer are upon us here in the great deep-freeze, glad you had such a great time. Thanks for sharing.

Kelly.

Nice pic of the sunset and that boat looks as though it is rigged for action. Pitty about the wind. But as you say.“Next Time!” Jax
