Hot Dog!! You did it, Cordell! SWEEEEET!
OK…now exactly HOW did you manage it??
today it was easy…I went before the sun was up…they were tailing and feeding on top…I threw the muddler where the action was and they hit immediately from the competition thinking it was a berrie I guess…used the black muddler…got 3 of them before a really big one broke my bottom 2 guides off my 8wt…bummin about that but LOOMIS will take care of me…the carp did what bonefish/permit/snook/jacks/tarpon/sawfish/redfish just couldnt do…SWEET!!! this is of course where I took you beside the preschool…BTW…my website is being upgraded and should be done today…YOUR picture{s} should be in the gallery already but if not very soon
Broke your rod guides off?? Yowzah, that’s a freaking strong fish!
I thought I recognized the spot…Didn’t they spook when you caught the first one? Or were they coming back for the berries?
I’ll check your new website!
they never leave the berries, ever…they are there around the clock…many more will show up around the edges but the berrie tree is home base
Fantastic, I wish that we had them in Wisconsin. I have really taken to carp on the fly the last couple of seasons. They take me into my backing on my 8 wt on a regular basis and that is cool for a boy that doesn’t have salt close by. Congrats again,
Rick
Grass carp make excellent eating. Battered n’ deep fried. Probably other ways too. No kidding.
Need to cut out intercostal “y” bones just like a lot of other fish.
they have become routine now and I can expect a hookup almost every cast…sweet…the mulberry fly works like nobodys business and they hit it on the surface just like trout fishing…dozens of rising carp all very eager…they hit it immediately on the splash

Nice. I haven’t seen a Grassie in probably three years. The water is pretty low right now here. I can’t use the berry flies. Wouldn’t do any good. We don’t have Mulberry here like down south FL that I know of. Maybe nymphs would work if I ever see any Grassies again when the water comes back up.
FYI, it is illegal to possess grass carp in Florida without a permit. Removing one from the water is possession.
whoops…I didnt know that…best not fish there again then…the water is too shallow and the fish beat themselves on the coral and do damage…same with the tarpon…its best to release them and point them back to the deep which is what I am doing actually…I am standing in the water on the drop off…it would be best if I just didnt fish there anymore anyway…thanks for the heads up

Ha it won’t do you guys any good…haven’t you noticed how he carefully hides his face on all his photos…nobody will be able to recognize him…:rolleyes:
Holding a fish aloft before release is “possession?”
…haven’t you noticed how he carefully hides his face on all his photos…
He’s a senior member here with a profile link to his homepage revealing a full name, his face, and even telephone numbers – not exactly Osama bin Laden of the mangroves.

I did the same.
Kinda vicious for “The fraternity of fly fishers,” isn’t it?
Plea insanity. Im just crazy about fishing.![]()
Kind of hard to keep one from biting your fly if it is so inclined. Maybe we can use some Grassie repellent on our flies. LOL The law does not prohibit catching one. Just release them.
I think the intention of the law is to keep the Grassies in the water to aid in the removal of excess vegetation. So the law means that they are not to be “removed” from the water (transport elsewhere, killed, or kept as food, pet, or other). Taking a photo of the fish before release does not break that law.
actually i was reading about goliath grouper fishing in florida (a protected species) and the website states that releasing the fish in the water is acceptable but removing to to take a picture is not an immediate release so it is techinically possesion, even if only for a moment. i doubt you have anything to worry about catching grass carp in a pond and the transport rule is most likely just designed to prevent the spread of the species into other florida waters as they are seen as a problem fish in many places however.
here’s the site for the goliath grouper info:

Bone ;
Maybe you’ll have to take authorities fishing.
call all you want…they are all my buddies…I talk to them all the time and have them on speed dial… they stop to talk to me for info…even on the FWC site they are holding it out of the water…it plainly states to release immediately which I did…I am a extremely good fish handler and tag bonefish for the U of Miami marine school and also have tagged rainbow trout for the Fish and Game dept in Alaska
