Did anyone see that they were flooding the Canyon. This was to move sediment and warm up the water. What do all of you think about it and the fishing in the area. Also would the fishing be better if they never had dammed up the river to begin with. Do you think that this should be a regular event. Just saw it on the news and wanted to know everyones oppion.
But about ten years ago we had a really wet spring here in Nortwest Arkansas resulting in huge volumes of water going over the spillway at Beaver Dam. It was quite awesome -looked like Niagra falls with the water dropping about 200 ft. The roar was amazing and the volume of water caused the ground to shake near the dam. the river was so scoured that most of the fish and fish habitat was washed down stream. It took several years for the river to recover. TU helped rebuild some weirs and placed boulders back and otherwise helped restore the habitat. The fishing has recovered. The Colorado river is a totally different kind of system and habitat so I’m not sure what the flush will do. I do know that they have flushed the river at least twice before. Maybe someone from that area can give us an accounting of their obsevations on the effects.
