I caught my first trout/fish on a flyrod using a Renegade on a backpacking trip in the Lost Creek Wilderness area in Colorado. I remember it like it was yesterday, even though it was about 25 years ago.
My actual first trout was on a nymph. But it was on a guided trip and, at the time, I didn’t know one nymph from another – so I have no idea what it was.
However, the first trout I caught on a fly rod out on my own was on a #10 black with green krystal flash woolly bugger. That’s the one I really remember.
My first trout was on a Royal Coachman about 60 years ago (worms came later) and the first trout on one of my own flies was on a Rio Grande King a couple of years later. Boy time goes fast when you are having fun!
Caught my first trout on a flyrod using a worm. Don’t remember what fly was the first one I caught a trout on. It was 35 years ago and there have been quite a few between then and now.
My first was on a elk hair caddis on Brown’s Creek in Colorado about 9 years ago. I still haven’t been back to the exact location again, but hope to in the next couple of years.
First trout on a fly was close to 50yrs ago. Cannot remember the fly. Do remember it being tossed with a spinning rod and no bobber or weight. Tight loops…? Yeah, right! It was in Yosemite Valley on the Merced R. and they still had the fire fall then.
…lee s.
My first trout hooked was on a dry fly. A Quill Gordon I think but can’t be sure. I had trouble telling different flies apart at the time. Not trying to come off like a dry fly purist, but when I first started I didn’t know about anything but dry flies.

I rfemember my first two Salmon. First was on a Parmacheene Belle wet, second was on a Parmacheene Belle dry. Needless to say I like those Parmacheene Belles.
