I went to a private pond with the fly fishing club today and got my biggest bluegill in years. I am one happy fisherman!
Very nice gill! Fought like a bear, didn’t it?. What fly did you use?
Congrats & thanks for sharing.

I used a chartreuse bully spider on sinking line because I had read that the bigger ones would be deeper. While I don’t think this one was especially deep it worked and yes, he fought like a bear. I thought I had a nice bass or catfish on the way he kept boring for the bottom.
Nice gill, private ponds are the best lunker gill factories in the world.
Nice Gill! How did you like the sinking line?
Wow that’s a real plump lil’ football right there, nice gill:cool:

I was using type II sinking line on my 4 wt. rod and it seemed to work just fine. I was making fairly short casts so it wasn’t much bother to bring it up for the next cast and yet it got the fly deeper faster than I would have had I been using floating line with no split shot. I’m thinking of using this combo more in the future and see if I can catch more big bluegills and crappies. It may even help put a few more perch in the boat.
Looks like a handful. Those are fun fish on a flyrod. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the info. I would like to try sinking line sometime for summertime gills and crappie.
