Glue?

What is the best glue for laminating sheets of foam? :?:

Ron- I have used 3M’s Super 77 and it will work but it does not seem to hold all that well in water. So I am using the old tried and true Barge Cement. It is a rubber based glue and seems to hold real well. Maybe someone has a better idea? As the Barge takes time to use. Super glue gets to hard and does not work all that well. Ron

I see more and more sheets of foam becoming available…[at Wal-Mart e.g.]…with an adhesive backing.
Does anyone know if that adhesive will hold up under water?

Good question Duck. I have a few of the said backed foams and was wondering the same.

I don’t know how the adhesive-backed foam sheets will permanently bond to each other but I do know that the adhesive holds a thin sheet of mylar foil beautifully. I made some crease flies over a year and a half ago with mylar sheeting laminated on the foam. I have used them extensively and the mylar is still in place. I bonded the foam and the mylar with a heavy, repeated rolling by a five-inch, rubber craft roller. Worked great. 8T

A good quality exterior grade carpet tape will work. Don’t trap air in the layers.

Goop will work and is very messy. Foam stinks using most rubber cements.

One glue I have used for bonding small pieces of foam together is Super Glue-Type Gels spead evenly with a blade and then the stack weighted until dry.

Contact Cement works for me.
Takes a while though.

I use GOOP thinned with Lacquer Thinner–thinned to use with a paint brush or tooth pick. Cover both surfaces and apply wieght. I then use a fabric roller cutter to cut strips for bodies.
