Started fly fishing just this past late Summer. I have been addicted ever since. The last 2 times out I was on my bass boat and shore fishing on a pond. I caught more fish with the fly rod than the spinner both times, including bass.
Today I caught 2 roughly 2.5 lb bass on an olive wolley bugger with dumbell eyes that I made. And 2 more on a popper. Got to watch one size the popper up and hit it. I am just amazed at all this for some reason.

You are going to have so much fun trying all kinds of flies and catching fish on the surface is a kick in the butt!!
A little bit of advice is try tying sparse flies without weight.
They will be easier to cast and the fish won’t care if their in shallow water.
