Garrison 193 vs 201

Is there anyone out there that can tell me the difference between these two tapers? If possible, can you tell me whether one is slower than the other, etc.? Any information at all would be appreciated.
Happy Trails,
Dean

The 193 is a tad bit slower than the 201 and is a 6’8" 4 wt. and the 201 is a 7’ 5 wt. very sweet casters and very powerful for their size. if you load those tapers into hexrod, you will see some nice flat stress curves on both of them

dleo,
Wow! Thanks for all of that…very informative. One more question though. I have read info on a couple of bamboo rod sites that they are selling a “4” weight that is based on a Garrison 201e. Does this make sense to you, seeing that the 201 is a “5” weight? Does putting the “e” on the end of the 201 denote something different?
One last question. If you were fishing for small fish, such as grayling and small dolly varden with one of these rods, and not casting more than 40 feet, do you think that the 193 would be just fine for them? That’s the way I’m leaning.
Many thanks ahead of time.

AD,
I think if you went with either one you would be happy with the results in the fish you are after…and quite honeslty, most casters would notice some difference in the casting of either rod but it would be insignificant.

My preference would be for the 201.

The 201e is a variation of the 201, and it is typically a little more aggressive and faster taper. I would defer the “4wt. based on the Garrison 201 taper” to the real expert on classic tapers, A.J. Thramer, he goes by splinter on this board and hopefully he will chime in and share his wealth of knowledge on this thread. what ever Thramer says, take it to the bank.

dleo,
Thanks so much for your information and opinion. I really appreciate it a lot. I will take it into consideration before I buy. If the casting is pretty similar then I will probably go with the softer casting rod as I have some faster and more aggressive 4 weights. I can’t wait to see what it feels like with a silk line on it. Back to the future, eh?
