It also has a metallic blue reel seat.

Start with a 5wt and go up from there. It was most likely designed to be a 6 or 7wt.

Good luck!

I did a little Google search and found a little info that maybe useful. Is there a number followed by the letters C HCF. If so the number preceding the letters is probably the weight of the recommended line. According to the ofther info online the rod is probably around 40 years old and not highly valuable to a collector. Probably very useable and strong rod. I think I had a Garcia Conlon casting rod back in the late 70’s or early eighties.

Tom if you have a small scale this is what I do and is the easiest/best way to find out what the rating of it is http://www.suite101.com/content/how-to-determine-the-weight-of-a-fly-rod-a198459

Steve

Here is a conversion chart

It didn’t paste too good, draw your own lines

Thank you guys for all of the help.
Steve i’ll try that if i get a gram scale.
UJ i’ll post pictures later I can’t see any numbers.

Here is one laid out.

It’s a seven weight as I’m sure you’ve figured by now. I love the five star, brown, conolon garcias and have two or three around here. Here’s a thread that describes your rod and gives background info. http://fiberglassflyrodders.yuku.com/topic/14122

Chuck S THAT"S IT!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
i haven’t figured the line WT yet thank you.

It is a seven–HCH means double taper 7. With that said, those old fiberglass rods handle a line size up or down pretty easily in most cases. Congrats on a good old rod!

Check it out here on the site: http://flyanglersonline.com/features/bamboo/ silk or not this works.
