I’ve discussed this before, but…A guy told me serveral years ago that using furled leaders for highstick nymphing causes you to miss a lot of bites and I can’t get that out of my mind. Has anybody noticed any problems with them? I even bought Kathy Scott’s video, but I have never followed through with things.
ive never had an issue i use a nylon furled leader when nymphing with 5 feet of tippit and doo fine
I use a 7’ furled leader made of Flourocarbon and have no issues.
I’ve used both floro and thread furled leaders for nymphing with no problems.

Ditto…I have even used 6’ leader with 5’ of fluoro and no worries, which I really thought there might.
For top water dries I use Uni thread furled leaders w/floro tippet w/ wf line (RIO)
For my nymphs I make my own Fluro carbon furled leaders, fluro tippets with wf floating line for fishing
Just sub surface to 3 feet deep. For deeper fishing nymphs I slip on the reel with an intermediate line
(Lake line from RIO) with the Fluro carbon furled leader w/ fluro tippets.
I have never experienced any problems and catch more than my share.
I do not sell them, only make for my own fishin.

I’ve used Kevlar leaders for deep nymphing. Untreated they sink like a brick. I’m considering a mono leader with Kevlar tip for a micro midge tip.
Cheers,
A.
I have done that. One problem, mono stretches, kevlar does not. Fluorocarbon Kevlar works though.
Loved it.
I fished WarrenP’s Berkley Gold Vanish furled leader while highstick nymphing a few days ago and I thought it worked beautifully. The gold color makes the leader easy to see where it enters the water and it seems to sink quickly, which I certainly like when nymphing. I used a 4.5-foot leader and he is generously going to send me a 6-foot leader to try. I caught enough fish to make me happy and just as many fish as my body who was fishing a regular leader. My main concern with furled leaders is do they create a belly, and do they cut through the water and sink quickly.
