Furled leader question

Ive been making furled leaders the way kathy does in her cd… Been making them fer 4 to 6wt lines… What thread do ya use if ya wanna make a floating leader fer an 8wt ?

You might want to look at the following site, that is all about furled leaders…

http://www.furledleaders.co.uk/

Steven says it all; however, to be more specific, click on “Setup & Technique” and then " My Info in One File". Karel has a table that will tell you which thread, how many strands, etc., to produce a furled leader that has the same density in the butt section as a monofilament leader for each line weight. This table is generally referred to as “One-Stop-Shopping”. All the info you need is there.

bugman, I don’t know if others would agree but I would say the question should be …not so much…what thread to use …but how many strands…the thread/material might vary with what type of fishing you are going to do.

As said above that spreadsheet will give you the info.

ducksterman:

The truth of the matter is that both are equally important. For a given line weight, the finer the thread, the more strands required. The heavier the thread the fewer strands required. And you are absolutely correct, this will also vary with the type fishing you plan to do.

Got one done… For a wf8f line, using the method on the cd #6 tying thread doubling the wraps seems too be just the righr size… Ill have to try it out this weekend on the water with a fly to be sure it cast as well as it does just lawn testing it…

bugman:

I am not familiar with the notation “cd #6”. What does it refer to?

TIA.
