Furled Leader Floatant?

What type of Floatant should I use on a Uni-thread furled leader? Thanks

I use Mucellin in the red tin with bamboo rods (no silicone), on a graphite rod the green tin would work just as well (contains silicone). In a pinch a paste wax can also be used (a can of good old Johnson’s Paste wax will last a lifetime).

im not sure but would frogs fanny work?
gink, mucillin many others im sure

I also use red tin (although the “tin” is now plastic) mucilin. Use it sparingly. I just slide my index finger over the mucilin, rub it on the tip of my thumb & go up & down the furled leader twice. Should last all day or most of the day.

Hello Chris,

No, Frog’s Fanny won’t work. It works great for dry flies, but not furled leaders. Mucilin in the red can is what I use. And like others have already mentioned, Johnson’s Paste Wax will work, too. Mucilin in the red can is also used on silk fly lines. Mucilin in the green can (tub) is normally used as a dry fly floatant.

thanx, yes it is great for dry flies !! and making an awesome air bubble around nymphs! 8)

Thanks for the info. I will try the Mucilin…

I been using furled leaders (the monofilament types from Feather Craft) this year and they were driving me nuts. I was using Loon Aquel to float them and I had to dry the leader and reapply every half hour or so or the leader would sink. I was about to chop them to bits and decided to try some paste-type dry fly floatant I had (like Mucilin but a by Cortland). It did the job and they now float nearly all day. I think that the lesson is that the liquid floatants are not very useful and probably wash off too easily and the paste types stay on the leader longer.
