Funny lines. or ... best excuse for NOT catching fish

Over on a UK board I got a chuckle on a similar theme.

Then I started thinking back to some of the “famous last words” I’ve heard around here, … Like …

“Oh, … I could have caught some, … but I have clients tomorrow and I wanted to make sure they do well!”

or

“I could have connected, … they were rising everywhere, … I just don’t prefer casting those #20-22 c-mids”

or

“We haven’t caught much ever since they banned putting worms on the fly”

(sadly, … these are all TRUE! … the first two from “guides” I met in another region)

I left my rod at home!

I’m a much better Fly fisher when talking fishing, than when I’m Actually Fly fishing!

Jax!!!

That is sad

I hate taking them off the hook…

Based on my last two trips to )&$#%&* Creek, I only had time to try 100 flies. I know that the 101 probably would’ve been the right one!

Allan

Allan, LoL!!

I find it hard to believe a trout wouldn’t want one of your flies (seen 'em ).

“Just got here.”

Standard line for anyone who asks “How is the fishing?”. Doesn’t matter how long I have been fishing I just got here.

“Do you know how difficult it is to not get bit when they’re in a frenzy like that! It takes a lot of skill to avoid all those mouths.”

This the result of a unique experience during a wide open Yellowfin Tuna bite. Fish were caught on bare hooks.

Yup TailingLoop,

Takes skill to land that fly where none will take it during a feeding frenzy.

“They were hittin’ midges but I forgot the magnifier & threader & the only flies I could use were #4s!”
Mike

“I’ve HAD muh say!”…
George MacMichael from The Real Mccoys

I only do Catch and Release! and I let em all go before you got here .
Waters to fast
Waters to slow
Waters to low
Waters to high
Waters to clear , fish are spooky
Waters to murkey , fish cant see the fly .
Its the Waters fault !

Went with a guide for forty years and of course every year someone would start off with…" How’s the fishing been?"

His reply…“Oh, about average.”

Amazing how many “newbies” would let it drop.

Respect Your Elders!

Duck, …

At least he didn’t say, “Well Sport, … things were just rockin’ ‘n rollin’ all week, … then the cold front rolled in … too bad, … Ya’ should have been here yesterday”.

p.s. … Juniour is looking over my shoulder and laughing, … 'cause most of our repeat clients start out asking “So, … How’s the family?”

Fishing has been fantastic!! Oh, you want me to CATCH them???

There isn’t enought room to list my excuses!!

Have to admit, I FINALLY caught some fish this last Thursday on the upper Green River near the Green River Lakes.

Chris;
Been skunked on my last 2 trips to the Little Manistee!! Know what? It didn’t matter! I was fishin’, with good friends and just kickin’ back! To me “Catchin’” is just plus!
I have a photo of a gal I got started about 3 years ago with a little Rainbow, that was my fishin’! Do we get so caught up in catching that we forget the joy of just fishing?

Jack,

Nope, … The thread is just for laughs. I, … same as you, … find pleasure and enjoyment in the moment. Connecting is just a bonus.

Sure, … it’s nice to connect now and again, … but in all honesty, … it’s not a pre-requisite for a fine time on the water.

Friends, … yes
Family, … yes
FOOD!, … yes

Catchin’ is just the Cherry on top

It seems that we try mighty hard to get that cherry, and it sure is sweet when success comes.

Any time in the great outdoors is heaven.

Ran into the opposite this week. As Iwas coming in from a paddle and fish I was asked how I did. Told them I could not get a bite while on the beach, but did well about 300 yds out in the kayak. He told me that another fisherman said he caught blues from the shore about 10 yds out at 5:00. Well at 5:00 I was there, and another fly fisherman was there, both of us cought not get a bite for love or money. This fisherman just made up the story so he could be “that guy”. WOW!
