Fun in southern OK

I actually got to go fishing last week!

Went up to Caney OK to my mother-in-law’s stock tank

I was fishing a little olive/white Clouser and Bill (who performed my wedding ceremony so he gets to go anytime he hollers ) was fishing a little yellow Gurgle Pop.

My first hookup of the day got off but not before lapping the boat twice and pulling the rod down in the water to the second ferrule. (See Castwell comments on the clinch knot vs. improved clinch - sage words) But numero dos was brought to hand nicely after actually pulling line off the reel. First fish that ever did that! Photo is kinda grainy as I had to capture it off of a Quick Time movie.

Later on the sun came out hard and I switched to a popper/dropper which yielded a few bream and a little bass

That, along with roast chicken, tomatoes and red onions, ice tea and pinto beans made for a fantastic day!

Robin,
Sounds like a good day! The fishing is pretty good in northern Oklahoma too. These are the ones that I kept for my birthday dinner.

Either that’s a tiny rod, or those are some pretty big bream!

bigflatbrook,
The rod is a 9ft 4wt. The fish were good sized for this area. I’m sure they would be small ones to Jim Hatch, LOL.

Hi Steve,

I never fillet a bream and yours look
an ideal size for the table. Fantastic
eating a few times each year. The biggun’s
are for catching and the mediums are for
eating.G I only eat a fish once, but I
can catch it numerous times, and having my
druthers, I like the biggun’s for the latter.G Warm regards, Jim

Jim, I’m with you on that. Any bream much longer than my hand can go back into to the water to propagate his/her good genes.
