French Partridge Wings + some fly pix

In an other string, I mentioned French Partridge wings as an excellent very cheap source
of soft-hackles. Here is a picture of a pair with a spool-holder with a Pearsall spool for comparison.
I took this picture, handheld, using flash. I then thought I would try some flies, again, handheld and with flash.
I did not bother with my usual battery of lamps. I wanted to see the results without them.
Pretty good I think. The camera is a Sony DSC - T50

youre link isnt working for me.

Try again, I have corrected it.

Hi Donald,

Those look quite good. I like the look of the pale tan feathers on the underside, and the top view with the dark brown would also be very useful. The wings don’t have the barring that the body feathers have, but that’s a bonus. If a skin comes complete with wings, then the more variety of colours/patterns the better. Nice flies on that page as well!

Nice!

Donald,

I agree with Jeff’s assessment of those wings. (Note to self: Make out an order for Cookshill.) I do prefer the lighter under converts, but that’s just me.

I picked up a European Jay a while back for VEE. She gets the wings for her salmon flies, but I get the downy breast feathers for soft hackles. I don’t have a picture yet, but Jim Slattery has a nice one .

I think your pictures came out very well for hand held with a flash. Nice and clear and almost shadowless. Well done.

As an aside, I just ordered a Snowbee-Waldron vise after reading about it on UK Flydressing, Sexyloops and Speypages. At 61, this is probably the last vise I’ll need to buy. After I wear it out I’ll just “in hand”.
