Found a flaw with the FEB hopper!

The little sunfish I’m catching with the FEB hopper try and swallow the dadgum thing every time! I spent a lot of time yesterday trying to carefully dig my fly out of little mouths!

(Hey, I didn’t say it was a bad problem!)

Zac

Well shucks, the little guys have to eat to get to be big guys.
Yep, they have to grab when they can, otherwise they’d be a starvin Arvin.

Sigh… back to the shop.

yeah, I noticed that, too. In the pictures I posted in the other thread all you can see are the front legs sticking out of their mouths. I just bumped up a size. They still take it hard, but they don’t seem to get hooked as deep now

Bluegill,
Those green sunfish swallow my sz 8 like it’s going outta style! Haha I love it. I’m going to try and do a few all black/brown ones up soon to imitate crickets… We’ll see how that goes.

I ran into the same problem with a different fly. I tried tying the fly on the back half of a long shank hook. The fish did not seem to mind & removing the hook was easier. I don’t have a camera to show you what I mean but if you go to the link provided you will get the ideas.

And it makes trout think they are a bass. I have never had trout take a “dry fly” by leaping out of the water, untill today. Kind of shocked, forgot to set hook first time. HEHE

Panman-- The Stu Apte Bluegill Fly? Ah, if only the little guys got as big as tarpon! Not a bad idea though, I’ll definitely be giving it a try.
