For John Scott, SlughFoot, Mike Thomas , Jeff Hamm

Got out yesterday with a very good young friend of mine, this guy is a Federal Biologist, and just happens to have been born and brought up in the area, so his ties to the area are very strong… but and the funny thing is there is always a but , he has never fished this section of the river before not ever, so all that to say that Karma can get you, one he took the day off cause he had a meeting at 1900 and he use the coy truck to get to the river, but did use it later to get to his meeting, and the river got him for not fishing it when he was a kid…He got skunked and I got four, two bows and a couple RMW.
Note that no fish were held aloft for my fish grip and grin picture taking vanity…

so Fish # 1

Fish #2

#3

Long distance shot of Paul, fishing a section of the river I normally skip, but he got two takes and a rock trout…

No scenic or Flower pictures but this is some thing that is very close to my heart…

Nice shots again. Very clear looking water where it’s not stiff! As for how bad your casting as to be to catch a bridge? Well, I’ve done that myself, so pretty bad actually!

That skeleton and head looks to me like a ling. We used to catch them in the Yellowstone below Reedpoint, Mt. Fished them at night and when is was younger we would fish them by a campfire. We used to call it Lingdrinking. Good eats!

yep very sure it is a Burbot/ling cod/fresh water cod… same thing you are talking about…

Another great report! Thanks for posting it

Ray -

I applied for my passport today. Should have it by the end of March.

I’m thinking August or early September for the Livingstone, Oldman, Crows Nest, and what else ?? Smaller streams and bull trouts would be my preference, but cutthroats will be just fine.

John

Well John, now you’ve got a passport… How about a trip downunder?
All the best.
Mike.

John they all sound good , and we will leave the “what else ??” for other means… those what elses are great and need a little discretion…

Here here, that is my dream, NZ for a month, but not for 10,000NZD, on the hoof and the bum…

That’s the best way to do it! The fishing in NZ costs only the price of a licence and you can buy an old van for $2000 or so, travel around and camp out the back of the van and then sell it when you leave for almost the same as you paid for it.
If you fancy the Tongariro area (and lets face it who doesn’t?) if you join the Taltac club you can have a bed for $17.50 a night. I am a member and would happily take a few days off to show you the area.
All the best.
Mike.

Thanks Mike, I missed this again, of course…

I like the sounds of that adventure in NZ…

I have been fishing hard , and have a ton of Photos to post, but I am going fishing again, in the morning… so again it will have to wait, I hurt too much and am too tired to do any thing when I get home

But and there is always a but, as a teaser I have caught lots, some by the tail and even Lassoed one, have seen fresh bear and cougar tracks, watched my dog float by me as I was fishing a pool, German shepherds get silly when the mood hits them!!

take care all I have to tie some stone clinger patterns for the morning but then may go swing streamers for monsters…

haha fishing has been great until today, broke my ring finger in several places, will need pin to hold things in place, Plse read this slowly as I am typing with one hand…

BEFORE you post a report on all the goings on up there recently ??

Geeesssh, Ray, we’ve been waiting for ages for some word and pics and now we get the broken finger “please read this slowly” thing ??

John

P.S. I surely do hope they get it set right and that it mends completely and quickly. Maybe Fischer and Thor can lick it an extra time or two to speed up the healing.

P.S.1 My passport application didn’t get processed because the original of my birth certificate which I sent in wasn’t good enough. Not sure what kind of delay there will be with getting a certified certificate which will meet the State Department’s criteria.

John
Keep at for the P/port…
This is a catch up report… all from the same river, which I will soon be abandoning for newer waters when they open.

I will be closing this post 01 April 2010 to start a new Fishing report… SWAB+2010…

Let’s pray that it only gets better - and fast!

LF

Get better soon!!!

Cool scar! How did you break it, bitten by a monster trout?
All the best.
Mike.

Nice fish and flies! Hope the finger sets and heals up pretty quick. I know Nova Scotia has been having some pretty mild early spring weather (was up to 19 degrees recently) bu they’ve had some recent snow again. Still, it means spring has sprung. How about for you? Still looks like there’s a bit of snow down, but it seems to be clearing.
